Arctic Monkeys in 2007. Suggestion from John in London
Arctic Monkeys achieved a massive feat, headlining the Pyramid Stage a year after the release of their debut album. Despite being new to the festival scene, fans were screaming Alex Turner’s lyrics from the get-go as the band delivered a top-tier set while wearing jeans and trackies. They wrapped up their set with the now legendary A Certain Romance.
John said: "They were just so energetic throughout."
Kylie Minogue in 2019. This suggestion was put forward by Arabella in Reading
The Princess Of Pop played the Sunday Legends slot in 2019. The performance saw a plethora of the best Kylie Minogue songs and an almost constant stream of confetti. Her fabulous set smashed the record for the most-watched Glastonbury performance, with an average audience of 3.2 million people tuning in at home.
Oasis in 1995. Suggestion from Andy in Glasgow.
Oasis helped mark the festival’s 25th anniversary when they returned to the festival as Friday-night headliners. They delivered arguably the best of their Worthy Farm performances. Surprise guest Robbie Williams came on to dance during Shakermaker, while the band belted out new songs such as Roll With It and Morning Glory. Noel Gallagher then debuted Wonderwall on acoustic guitar. Were you at this one?
Andy said: "Oasis has also had a connection with people from Glasgow. We all know that Noel Gallagher is secretly a Celtic fan. Loads of us from Glasgow did our first Glasto trip in 95, and Oasis were the best of an amazing weekend."
The Killers in 2017. Suggestion put forward from Josh in Greater Manchester
Seeing your favourite band on a smaller band or stage can often be a special moment. The Killers made a surprise appearance at the relatively small John Peel Stage. They walked on to Teenage Kicks by The Undertones, the Las Vegas rockers kicked things off with a bang and opened their set with When We Were Young, then continuing with a collection of their classic hits.
Josh told us: "They have never been my favourite band really, but this set was just so good. They were loud and fun. When you're at a festival like Glastonbury, you really need to connect with the crowd. I think they managed it on this occasion."
David Bowie in 2000. Suggestion put forward by John in Glossop
David Bowie performed a dream set executed with flair. His incredible back catalogue was played out in front of adoring music lovers. For many, this easily tops their list of the best Glastonbury performances ever. Sit back and enjoy this incredible rendition of Life on Mars.
John added: "Bowie is an icon and this Glastonbury set was just perfect for his fans, old and new."
