News: Happy New Year

  As the world brings in 2023, we asked a number people about their plans for New Years Eve. House party with friends Ben, from Edinburgh, is heading to Glasgow for a house party with friends. He said: "I never like going out on NYE, it's always more expensive and always far too busy." Big night out in Edinburgh planned for some people Adrian, currently living in London, is heading to Edinburgh for the night. He told us, it's always a great occasion in Edinburgh." Is the night always a let down Sophie from Manchester is staying in tonight. She added: "NYE is always a major let down and for me, symbolises the end of the wonderful Christmas period." This is a view supported by a growing number of people. Whilst a house party is the most popular tool for celebration, less people are going out and more people are simply doing nothing. Film: Avatar sequel proves a hit with audiences

 What are your thoughts on Avatar: The Way Of Water  It has made reportedly $1bn (£831m) at the global box office in just 14 days, becoming the fastest film to pass the milestone this year. The long-delayed sequel has proved a hit with audiences across the world and is one of only three films to surpass $1bn this year, after Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World Dominion. News: More rail disruption expected in 2023

 We hope that you're ready for more train disruption in 2023.  Train passengers across Britain are being warned to expect disruption into the New Year as rail strikes continue. Members of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) at CrossCountry began a 24-hour strike from 21:00 GMT on 26 December. And more TSSA members at Great Western Railway and West Midlands Trains will walk out on Wednesday and Thursday. RMT union members at Network Rail will resume strikes over pay and conditions on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 January. Their latest walkout ended at 06:00 GMT on Tuesday. However, delays continued into the afternoon as services got back up and running. The late handover of engineering works also caused some disruption, including at Paddington.  It has been a memorable year for English cricket. This article will explore a few moments that involves England's men's and women's sides in 2022. Root scores his 10,000th Test run in an England victory There were many highlights for the England test side. One was Joe Root scoring his 10,000th run. Their summer began with a tense win over New Zealand at Lord's as Root got the memorable milestone. Root became the second England player to reach 10,000 runs in Tests - doing so aged 31 years and 157 days. He was the exact same age as his former team-mate Alastair Cook when he reached the landmark. Women's Ashes The Women's Ashes Test ended with one of the most incredible finales that women's cricket has ever seen.  We are going to explore some of the highlights of 2022. First up is a look at how football came home. It wasn't delivered by Harry Kane and Phil Foden, but by Chloe Kelly and Ella Toone.  Chloe Kelly’s winning goal in extra time against Germany at Wembley crowned a first senior title for an England national team since 1966.  The goals in the final were scored by Kelly and Ella Toone, each introduced from the bench. The game management from the players and management took the match away from an experienced Germany team overwhelmed by the Lionesses’ depth of talent.  Kelly’s goal, scrambled in after a corner, was the achievement of a dream and will have inspired many others to play the game of football. This article will examine the impact of someone that wasn't actually a musician. A man that had a huge impact on the music industry across Greater Manchester and the rest of the UK. Anthony Howard Wilson (known by many as Tony Wilson) was a British record label owner, radio and television presenter, nightclub manager and journalist for Granada Television and the BBC. Tony Wilson was behind some of Greater Manchester's most successful bands. He was one of the five co-founders of Factory Records and the founder and manager of the Haçienda nightclub. Wilson was known as "Mr Manchester", due to his immense work in promoting the culture of Manchester throughout his career. His involvement in popular music stemmed from hosting Granada's culture and music programme So It Goes.  It's time to explore another sporting icon.  This time it's Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff. He is an English television and radio presenter and former international cricketer. Flintoff played all forms of the game and was one of the sport's leading all-rounders, a fast bowler, a middle-order batsman, and slip fielder. He was consistently rated by the ICC as being among the top international all-rounders in both ODI and Test cricket. He is regarded as one of the most successful composers and performers of all time, Paul McCartney is known for his melodic approach to bass-playing, versatile and wide tenor vocal range, and musical eclecticism, exploring styles ranging from pre–rock and roll pop to classical and electronica. His song writing partnership with Lennon remains the most successful in history. Born in Liverpool, McCartney taught himself piano, guitar and song writing as a teenager, having been influenced by his father, a jazz player, and rock and roll performers such as Little Richard and Buddy Holly. News: Regulated Rail Fares to increase

Is this a wise decision? Regulated rail fares in England will rise by up to 5.9% from next March, the Department for Transport has announced. The rise is being capped at a level well below inflation, "to help reduce the impact on passengers", the transport secretary said. The fares will officially rise on 5 March 2023. Before the Covid pandemic, fares were raised in January each year, based on the retail prices index (RPI) measure of inflation from the previous July.The normal formula is RPI plus 1%. However, the government said that rail fare increases for 2023 would be capped at 5.9%, well below July's RPI figure of 12.3%. Like last year, the government is also freezing fares for January and February, so that passengers have more time to buy tickets at the existing prices.
